Human Factors in Transportation addresses issues of drivers’ compatibility with the highway environment, which is necessary for the safe negotiation of a roadway. Highways and traffic control devices must be designed to be compatible with driver capabilities and limitations. In its 30 years of operation, TRC has conducted numerous human factors studies to design and evaluate traffic control devices to ensure their effectiveness in eliciting safe driver responses. Driver human factors is a significant aspect of TRC’s expertise.
